Sensex ends up 483pts at 19,254
The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 53 points at 18,824. Nervouness in the opening trades following Sebi’s new norms on P-notes saw the index slip to a low of 18,630.
The index, however, soon recovered and bounced into the positive zone. Unabated buying, thereafter, saw the index rally past the 19,000-mark to a fresh all-time intra-day high of 19,276 - up 646 points from the day’s low.
The Sensex finally ended (provisional) with a significant gain of 483 points at 19,254.
Om Shanti Om
The SRK magic is back with Om Shanti Om which will be releasing this diwali.
Director Farah Khan said she would be ‘re-introducing’ SRK. If the promos of the movie and the song Dard-E-Disco are anything to go by, she has definitely kept her promise and more!
“Well, full credit to Shah Rukh for attempting something like this which showcases him in an altogether different ‘avtaar’”, talks Farah fondly for her superstar friend, “The idea was to give him a much leaner look, while refraining from making it all look artificial.”
The movie which deals with reincarnation will have the stunning Deepika Padukone starring opposite King Khan.
Director Farah Khan says that the item number in her forthcoming film Om Shanti Om that stars Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, is the mother of all item numbers.
Speaking to reporters Deepika said, “Since it is a 70’s film I saw older films, my inspirations have been Madhubala, Hema Malini and Helen . I am not here to ape them, but since I was not born then I would like to get a feel of that era. I am very lucky to have got a break with Shah Rukh Khan as I have idolised him, and since ‘Farah’ is a female director and has been around for 17 years that made things very easy.”
When quizzed about the experience of working with King Khan, Deepika said, “On the first day of the shoot he came and gave me a pat on the shoulder and said we all are with you.”

Cricket: South Africa continue tour after Karachi blasts
LAHORE (Reuters) - South Africa will continue their cricket tour of Pakistan despite the twin blasts on Friday that killed 133 people in a rally for former premier Benazir Bhutto in Karachi.
Bhutto’s motorcade was attacked as it edged through hundreds of thousands of well-wishers who had gathered to welcome her back after years of self-imposed exile. Bhutto was unhurt by the deadliest bombing in Pakistan’s violent history.
South Africa’s manager Logan Naidoo told a news conference that the team were satisfied with security arrangements for them, but reserved the right to review the situation if needed.
“We are satisfied so far. The security arrangements put in place are pleasing and acceptable to the South African team,” Naidoo said.
“So we will definitely continue the tour, but we will be keeping tabs on what is happening in the country for rest of the tour.
“If anything changes, we will meet again with the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) and security officials and reassess our position and then we will make a decision if anything has to be changed.”
Sources in the Pakistan board said there was a possibility of South Africa wanting the final one-day international at Karachi on Oct 29 shifted to another venue.
The sources said South Africa, who have four more one-day games in Lahore (Oct 20), Faisalabad (Oct 23), Multan (Oct 26) and Karachi wanted the last match shifted to Lahore.
Cricket: Jones sets sights on England return
NEW Worcestershire signing Simon Jones hopes his move to New Road will be the launchpad to help resurrect his England career.
The 28-year-old seamer has signed a two-year contract with the county after spending over a decade with Glamorgan.
Jones has been blighted by injury since playing a pivotal role in the 2005 Ashes series, but admitted the move could be the catalyst to help him add to the 59 wickets he has taken in 18 Test matches for England.
“Playing for England is still an ambition of mine and I hope I can restart my international career,” Jones said.
“Anyone who has played international cricket will tell you it is where you want to be as a professional cricketer.
“But I realise the only way I am going to do that is by doing well in county cricket for Worcestershire, and that has to be my goal for the time being.
“New Road is a great place to bowl so I’m hoping to get some wickets and then I can start pushing for my place in the England side again.”
